[When the crystal turns on and starts to broadcast voices, it's mid-sentence. There's a rustle of papers that's more distinct at first, closer than the two human voices speaking.
The voice that is heard doesn't belong to Felix, though it's his crystal broadcasting. Any of the mages who were in Redcliffe might know the voice that speaks instead.]
-it's here. I wanted you to read these over. [Gereon Alexius sounds excited, as if he's barely containing himself.
There's a moment of silence as Felix takes the papers and looks them over. Gereon can't seem to wait for his son to finish and summarizes.]
During the Blight the King of Ferelden came across a man who had prolonged his life. Most of his research has been lost but the Inquisition was able to -
Father, this is monstrous. [Felix's voice is quiet as he cuts his father off, stopping his father mid-steam. There's a moment where the tension in the room is palatable even through the crystal.]
While it's true the ethics of his research were troubling, he was able to accomplish much, Felix. [Gereon continues after breaking through that tension.] With more of his research, the application of my amulet, and a little bit of the revelations brought to us by the Breach I could find a way to slow the taint. I might even be able to end it's influence over you. Imagine, Wardens free from the threat looming over them. Why, your Order could accomplish so much! [The excitement in Gereon's voice grows - so much that Felix feels transplanted back to his youth listening to his parents discuss their new discoveries over the dinner table. The feeble old man who had made the trek to Skyhold from Haven in chains sounds as if he's been devoured by the giddiness of a schoolboy on the verge of a great eureka moment.]
Father - [Felix starts, but his protest is weak and Gereon's mood overpowers it.]
You'd be able to live, you'd be free from the threat the Elder One poses. The other Wardens would benefit too, of course.
Father - [Felix tries again, and his voice is still drowned out.]
You've found love, and happiness, and this way you'd be able to live it to the full potential. You could do so much. If only you could give me a bit more information about the Joining, or anything to do with the taint that could help with my research -
Stop. [Finally Felix silences his father. His voice is stronger than it has been in a long time, just shy of yelling. Then the two fall quiet for a moment before Felix continues. He is calmer now, though his voice is still serious] Every day, I wake hoping to find that you've abandoned your madness, that I'll come speak to you and you'll be the man I remember from my youth. A man who would never look at the history of these experiments and be thrilled over them. And yet I come here and you speak to me like this-
[Gereon interjects,] Felix, be reasonable. The Wardens gave you back to me, the least I can do is -
[Felix cuts him off again, his voice strong once more.] No. Stop this, father. Stop trying to manipulate the situation. You've done enough already. Do your research for the Inquisition, help them - Do not seek out answers to questions that should not be asked. You used to teach me that one man's ambition should never be used as an excuse to harm others. Follow that ideal.
Felix, my boy. My son... [Gereon sounds deflated, but there's still a level of determination in his voice.] I pray that one day you'll realize that anything is worthwhile when it comes to the life of your child. [Another long moment of silence, he pleads with his son] At least put it to the Wardens, see what they think.
I think we have enough to -
I was worried you'd say that, I'm afraid they already know. [As he speaks their voices become clearer, as Gereon shifts the books and papers on his desk to reveal the crystal.]
Kaffas, father, what did you - [After a rare curse from Felix, the crystal quickly disconnects.]
