History

Here his is page on the Dragon Age wiki. Additional key points from World of Thedas 2 and headcanon:

* Gereon Alexius married his childhood sweetheart, Livia. They chose each other rather than being an arranged marriage, but the coupling was tolerated by both of their families because both Gereon and Livia were extremely talented mages.
* Despite the strength of his parents' bloodlines it became clear as Felix grew older that he lacked strong talent in magic. Even with the best tutors, it took him a lot of effort to cast even the most simple of spells.
* Gereon and Livia loved him anyway, however Gereon's father did not feel the same. After the boy's disappointing magical talent was revealed, he sent assassins to kill his grandson.
* Livia protected her son, took out the assassins, and then murdered her husband's father to ensure Felix's safety.
* With his father gone, Gereon, who never enjoyed politics, took his place in the Magisterium.
* While Felix lacked magical talent, he was extremely interested in mathematics. To encourage that interest, and also to protect him from the Magisterium's plottings, Gereon and Livia sent Felix to the University of Orlais.
* While his parents fretted about his safety, Felix was still a peripheral member of the group of mages who were trying to make Tevinter better (members include his parents, Dorian Pavus, Maevaris Tilani, and other like minded mages). He would often send letters back home to talk about politics or put forward new ideas.
* It was on a trip back home during a break from school that Livia and Felix were attacked by darkspawn. Livia was killed and Felix was Blighted.
* After being sickened, Felix gave up school and moved back home full time so that his father could experiment on him and try to cure him. Dorian was there for a time as well, working towards helping him. Felix tolerated the experiments well enough, in part because he didn't want to force his father to give up hope, but as time went on it became clear to Felix that he was going to die. What Felix really wanted most was to spend his last days with his remaining family, but Gereon's obsession with curing him turned Felix's father down a dark path.

For purposes of Fade Rift:
* After his father was defeated, Felix stayed with him at Haven rather than going home. He didn't feel well enough to make the journey and his father's treatments are one of the few things that keep him going.
* While he in Haven and after the trip to Skyhold, Felix has been putting his affairs in order through letters back home and encouraging as many as he can to join the cause of the Inquisition.
* Felix's health is deteriorating very quickly. Those close to him know that if something drastic doesn't happen soon, he die in only a couple months time.

Personality

Felix is, at his very core, a good person. When asked about him, Dorian will explain that being around Felix could inspire you to be a better person. He has the type of presence that puts others at ease and causes them to believe in the best versions of themselves. He is gentle, kind, and tries to put others ahead of himself - even as he is dying. Tevinter is known for being filled with those who would take advantage of others, and Felix somehow defeated this stereotype by wanting to always do what was right. His kindness doesn't make Felix a total push over though; he is also known for using wry sarcasm and is prone to slight mischievousness when needed. He is a believer in the idea that a well-placed remark can be just as effective as a well-placed spell.

Felix doesn't handle conflict well when it comes to people he loves. He tends to try to avoid confronting them. Usually he does that by trying to defuse anger, but this also means that he tends to enable bad behavior in those he cares about. For example, he doesn't confront his father's dealings with the Venatori until both Dorian and the Inquisitor were there to support him. He may have mentioned once or twice to Gereon that he'd prefer that they not do evil things to find a cure for his sickness, but he didn’t fully force his father to face the fact that he was going to die until he had been defeated. This also means that for all of his kindness and his desire to go against Tevinter’s corruption, he isn't the best at confronting some of the injustices he sees. That said, he is trying to do what he can to change things. He’s just a bit slower at it than others might be.

Felix has been dealing with having the Blight for years by now, and that has had an impact on his personality. He is a man who has faced his death head on and has accepted it with a certain level of dignity. He has spent time managing the symptoms of a fatal disease and that would leave its mark even on the healthiest of minds. He understands suffering a little better now, and has a certain level of empathy towards those who may be in similar situations. Once he is made a Warden, he will also have a true appreciation for the life he has been given. Given a second chance to live, Felix will be desperate not to waste it. This means that he'll be even more desperate to figure out what is going on with the False Calling.

Strengths & Weaknesses

While the powerful mages in Felix's life have the magical talent that can make the world better, Felix lacks that skill and has a difficult time mastering even the simplest spells. He is basically stuck at the first tier of his ability tree. Because of this, he focuses instead on trying to bring brightness to the world through his personality. Being a good man, he believes, was just as important as changing the way that magic is applied. He focuses on being a kind, generous soul.

Felix has a mind that enjoys logic. Where he lacked in magical skill, he made up in understanding of mathematical theory. His studies at the University of Orlais opened his mind to some of the most advanced theories in Thedas and that skill can be used for problem solving issues that don't have a magical solution.

Felix is pretty rubbish at fighting. He can't use many offensive spells effectively, since he lacks strong magical talent, and he's no good with a sword or bow. He is willing to learn, however, since it will be his duty once he's a Warden to do so.

Another important thing to point out is that Felix's body has been completely wrecked by the Blight. When Fade Rift begins, he will be little more than skin and bones under his robes. He does a good job at hiding his pain when he can, but those close to him will know that he is literally wasting away.

Even with is lack of magic or fighting ability, Felix is still the type of person that Thedas needs more of. His ability to inspire people to be better is something that should be highly valued. He also has a connection to some of the most powerful mages in Tevinter and could help strengthen the bridge between the Inquisition, the Wardens, and their allies in Tevinter. This connection may become important in times to come.

Inventory

Felix only has what he was able to grab as they ran from Haven. Pretty much just the robes on his back and the basic supplies of his treatments.

Motivation

Felix will begin his adventures with the Inquisition because he was too weak to make the journey back home. He then will stay and work with his father and Dorian, assuming his father stays on to research for the Inquisition rather than being executed. At first, he will be slowly dying and wasting away. He will be working to put his affairs in order and do what he can for the Inquisition before he passes. The plan is to set his expiration date at two in-game months.

Before that period is over, a Warden will come forward and offer Felix an alternative. Hopefully this will be Alistair but that is dependent on the characters in game. Once Felix survives the Joining, he will then be motivated to discover the cause for the False Calling, which he will experience even despite being new to the Order. He will be engaged with the Warden plot at Adamant and will end up working to restore the Order.

SAMPLES

Here he is in another game lecturing Draco Malfoy about being a better person. I feel like this is a good sample for understanding how Felix speaks to people he has a disagreement with and also to show his complicated feelings towards his homeland.

Here he is with Mae on the TDM linked because it's set in the Fade Rift verse and it shows how I'll be handling Felix's illness up until the moment he becomes a Warden.
